I was pleasantly surprised when I received an email which brought me down memory lane. I received old pictures of while I was in the UK during 1987-89 from my best friend then, Clare.
Clare was my first ever friend when my family moved to the UK. We did everything together. Whenever we have birthday parties, we invited each other, we learned to ice skate together, and I still remember that we got cut by each other with our iceskates when we fell down after skating too fast. We always played outside together, roller skate together, cause we lived 2 units away.

Funny how we used to make funny faces when somebody wants to take our pictures
After a year, my family moved to a new place with a really big garden. There were apple trees, plum trees, and even a small pond. This was where we experienced our first snow fall. My mum, Christine and myself got so excited, that we went out of the house and build a snowman eventhough the snow was just a few centimeters thick.
I still have pretty good memories eventhough I was 7 years old. I can remember nearly every moment that I was there.

Mum with her funky 1980s hairstyle
Here I remembered building my first sandcastle, and my first time riding a pony which I lost my dad’s boy’s brigade cap.
I remember my first day of school. I remember this so clearly. My mum was talking to the teacher and I was standing all alone in the middle of the classroom. Then the class kids started to surround me and stare at me as I was some alien from outer space. I am the first chinese that they have ever met in their life! They started poking me to see if I was real. Some even started touching my hair and lifting them up to see it closer, cause my hair was so black.
I can’t remember the names of my classmates, but I do remember the name of my teacher, Mrs Summers. I didn’t even know a word of english when I first started. But somehow, kids can learn new languages so fast, that I started talking like a British in no time. I was even called a chatterbox by Mrs Summers.

It’s been almost 20 years since I left the Uk. But I’ll always treasure the fond memories.

Hey… I never knew you resided in UK for a stint… wow… that must’ve been so cool… and COLD…
Actually, as a kid, I didn’t feel that cold. Maybe because I still had baby fat. We always had rosy cheeks, even my uncle asked if my mum put makeup on us.
hmmm.. tried to find some similarities btween u then and now.. couldn’t spot it, except for the lovely wide smile.. =)
