There are quite a few music festivals held in Victoria. There’s the St Kilda Festival, which we didn’t go to, and last Sunday, we went to the Brunswick Music Festival. We live in the suburb of Brunswick, so that’s how we know the festival was coming. They closed one long stretch of Sydney Road just to host the festival. No trams were running along that road, so we had to take an alternate route to church that Sunday morning. We took the train near our place to the city, then switch to our normal tram route to church, and the same way back.
So after church, we decided to drop by the Brunswick Music Festival to have a look and see what it’s all about. Man the place was packed!

Normally this road is dominated by cars and trams, but not today
There were many stages set up for bands to play. All sorts of music was performed, pop, jazz, rock, classical, ethnic, etc.

Rock Music… saw quite a few people head banging along… it sounded quite annoying to me

This one sounded like some school band
Other than the various bands playing, I also had fun looking at people.

This is a chinese man… but I thought his costume looked like it belong to a female. He was selling tickets to a music perfermonce.. maybe chinese music?
I saw alot of punks too. Their hairstyle look pretty cool, but dare not take their photos incase I get confronted or something
There was also alot of food stalls set up. We didn’t buy anything, because everything looked so expensive. 1 vegetarian currypuff $2.50, the size is the normal malaysian karipap which we can get it for RM0.30. We even saw a simple dish of “pancake”, $9. I should think about opening a food business here.

Mini funfair set up infront of a church
This next picture is interesting. Guess what that guy used to do this arrangement.

The designer/collector – that guy sitting at the pavement

Take a close look:
I really wonder how long it took him to collect all those lighters. It’s either he really smoked that much, or scavanged from dustbins, or collect from other smokers.
Many people thronged the pubs and cafes located along the road:
People selling things from food, clothes, ornaments, decorations, pottery, tattoos, toys, handbags.. etc…

What do you call this? Some windmill thing. I thought the hay stack was an interesting way to display the product.
And lastly, what a name to call your product. It’s either brilliant, or, ‘how did you know?”

Wow!! can’t believe i hadn’t been catching up on blogs for a few days, and wham! u’ve got so many interesting stuffs going on. =)
Am glad u guys are settling in well.. =)
Miss you both! Take care!
Hi Flora,
My name’s Alex, and i study Graphic Design at Swinburne in Melbourne. I came across this blog post because i’m studying the Brunswick Music Festival, and the way that the organisers use graphic design to display information.
I was wondering if it would be ok to ask you a few questions about your experience on the day of the festival? Like how easy it was to use the programme guide and maps and so on. Via email perhaps?
It’d be a great help to hear a first hand account of the festival, but if you don’t have time that’s fine.
Leave me a message on my blog or something if you’re interested.
Thanks,
Alex.
