I was planning to blog yesterday, but I don’t know why I came down with a pretty bad headache. I’m alright now, thanks to mum’s acupuncture points on my face!
Seems like Mat beat me to posting up about the Melbourne Zoo. So I guess I don’t need to write much about it then. You can read his post here. Since he put up alot of pictures of the animals, no point for me to put here as well right? So I’ll be putting up pictures of myself!… hehehe.. If you want to see more animals… come visit the Melbourne Zoo!…. cheh wah… (sound like some promotional tag line). This zoo, I give the 2 thumbs up! I absolutely enjoyed it.
The zoo is so near our house, 15 minutes walk. Upon reaching the zoo, we heard alot of animals squawking and roaring and whatever they are doing. Mat’s colleague and his family with 2 kids came along too. The trees in autumn colours greeted us when we entered the zoo.
What I really liked about the zoo is that you can go up so close to the animals. Like the time they bath the elephants, I’ve never seen such a huge elephant just 3 feet away from me. And the way they built the zoo, they try their best to blend with the jungle, which felt a little more natural.

Feels good when you see something familiar
The whole Kampung-Gajah was created in a kampung like scene with lots of familiar Malay words all around.
And while walking, you can see birds in the pond, and even a mini padi field with a scarecrow and all.

I help you scare the birds on this side of the road ok?
The family which came along with us are Malaysians. But this family is really interesting… this 2 kids speak Japanese to each other. How cool is that? It was really cool watching this 2 kids speak japanese to each other, speaks a mix of japanese and mandarin to the parents, and the parents speak cantonese to each other. Way cool! They spent 7 years in Japan… that’s why. And now they are on their way to speaking like an Australian.

The kids picking out Stick Insect eggs
We spent the entire day in the zoo from the time it opened until the time it closed. I think we spent a little too long at the insect section, cause the 2 kids were picking out Stick Insect eggs. We also had a little picnic in the zoo during lunch, and then a tea break after that around 4pm.
I really liked the beware signs they put here and there. Some are really funny, like the one below.
Oh yeah… I touched a kangaroo
I should find a zoo here where I can hug a real life koala bear!

How come there’s a “kampung gajah” in an Australian zoo? Well.it’s really good to see something familiar!
