Literally… there was a smiley in the skies of Australia last night. It was so cute. It was a rare sight indeed.
This picture was taken just before 9pm.
And this one was taken around 10 something:
I don’t have a tripod here. So if I had, I think you can even see the whole moon.
The three objects appear to be bunched up close together in the sky. They are, in fact, just in the same line of sight. The Moon is the closest at about 400,000 km away from Earth. Venus is almost 400 times further away while Jupiter is almost six times further away.
There won’t be another configuration of crescent Moon and planets like this until 2036.
