Fortunately for such a small city like Pohang, there are interesting festivals to look forward to. This week is Pohang’s International Fireworks Festival. There will be fireworks every night for 5 minutes. But last Saturday, was the International Fireworks Competition! and it lasted from 9pm-10.45pm.
But before we went to the fireworks, we had a lovely dinner of Pizza (because my husband was craving for pizza) with these 2 lovely people.
The lovely HeeYoung and Roland
We ordered 2 regular sized pizza. One is the seafood pizza,
And the other, beef pizza. The white pieces you see there is not dragon fruit, unfortunately. It’s Dok, a korean rice cake….. on the pizza…. with black sesame seeds in them… yeah… weird…. and I thought the combo was weird. But the beef is nice.
This pizza chain is called Mr Pizza. The price of the pizza is not cheap too, around krw25,ooo. That’s about USD25 a pizza. Very expensive! HY said pizza is considered a luxury food to the koreans. I can understand that! It’s also a luxury to us since we’re in Korea!
After dinner, we thought of calling the taxi to take us to the firework’s place. But no taxi available!!! How could that be???!!!
So….
… we walked.
And we walked…
And we met with a 4 chain accident.
And we walked a little bit more…. and we went… hey… this looks like a good spot.
Rather than walk all the way to the exact spot, we decided to just stop right after this tunnel.
HY helped take 4 pieces of paper placemats from Mr Pizza for our precious bottoms to sit on.
And boy were we happy. It was the perfect spot!
Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, … let the games begin!
It’s a competition between Poland, China, Italy and S Korea. Below are pictures I took. I didn’t have a tripod, so this is the best I could do.
After a long while, not sure what made us decide to look behind us, and this is what we saw….
Other people decided to join us. Cars started stopping by at the side, passengers got out and joined us.
More pictures of the fireworks. This one look like butterflies.
This next one is suppose to be the number “100”… we think.
And the winner is:
Italy!
Something else funny happened that night. A group of people whom HY thinks come from Busan sat in front of us, and one of the guy started talking to us. This was roughly how the conversation went:
Busan guy: Where are your friends from?
HY: They are from Malaysia and Philipines.
Busan guy: Ahhh… are they here on holiday?
HY: No, they are researchers with Postech.
Busan guy: Ahh…. You speak really good Korean.
HY: *smile* Yes, because I’m Korean.
Flora, Mat and Roland: WOW….. HY…. You speak excellent Korean!
HY should have replied the Busan guy, “Yes, thank you”…. hahahahaha!!!
Good pictures, thanks for sharing what is happening at Pohan. Is the Dok on the pizza taste nice? USD25 for a regular pizza is expensive. Make your own pizza.
Dok eaten by itself is ok… but not with pizza.
I have made my own pizza before. But the oven that I have doesn’t seem to bake the bottom of the pizza well.
